Macacha Güemes (1787 – 1866)
THE MYTH:
Arrogant and beautiful, shrewd and intelligent, she was a noble lady who worked tirelessly next to her brother, Martín Miguel, the gaucho hero, to guarantee the independence of the American continent.
During the war, she carried out risky missions and was in charge of a network of informants who operated in Salta, Jujuy and Tarija and who provided vital information to control the enemy.
A legend in the sentiment of her people, her contribution to the patriotic cause occupies an important place in the history of her province.
