Benito Quinquela Martin (1891 – 1977)
This Painter, symbol of the neighbourhood of La Boca, set an example of humility and passion for colour. He recreated his immediate universe, the port and its hard labours with profound feeling. In this way, he dignified the effort of countless and anonymous workers.
He was an abandoned child who worked with his adoptive parents carrying coal bags. He remained always loyal to his neighbourhood and its people. He gave back all he had received from them captivating audiences with an intuitive but powerful palette and through donations and different foundations.
