Jorge Luis Borges (1899 - 1986)
THE MYTH
He became a national myth because he was one of the most prominent Spanish writers in the 20th century due to the perfection of his language, the universality of his ideas, the originality of his fictions and the beauty of his poetry.
Even though his critics have accused him of being an imperialist and the ideologist of the small bourgeoisie who does not represent the Argentine character, no one can deny that Borges is synonymous with erudition, intelligence and imagination. Reading his works can either move us or make us despair: he is neither a saint nor perfect, but he still is Borges.
