MANUEL J. CASTILLA (1918 – 1980)

THE MYTH:

He is one of the most important representatives of the poetry of the north of Argentina, a poet who lived and sang the praises of his native land like no one had done before. Plateaus, mountains, plains, the Puna desert, trees, flowers, skies, men, trades, music, joy and pain have been immortalised in his poetic work, which is at the same time touching and full of vitality.

Castilla lives as a mythical figure in the sentiment of his people, in every guitar, in every carnival celebration, in the wine made out grapes which come from the land and which makes men cry and laugh, and even in the foam of the rivers.
