Mafalda (1964)

THE MYTH

Mafalda was born in the late 1960’s into a typical middle class family of the San Telmo neighbourhood in Buenos Aires. She is as witty as she is irreverent, as reflexive as she is rebellious. At six years old, she is the rebel heroine who cannot accept the world as it is and makes us think about the contradictions of the adult universe.

Quino drew this character for the first time over thirty years ago. However, his genius is as fresh as ever and she is still very much alive in the memory of the Argentine people as the most significant and loved of their cartoon characters.
